Nirvana is an American rock band formed in 1987 in Aberdeen, Washington, by singer and guitarist Kurt Cobain and bassist Krist Novoselic. The band is best known for popularizing the grunge movement, a subgenre of alternative rock, in the early 1990s.
The band achieved worldwide success with the album “Nevermind” (1991), driven by the hit “Smells Like Teen Spirit”, which became a generational anthem and propelled Nirvana to the top of the charts. Their music, characterized by catchy melodies and raw energy, blends influences from punk, alternative rock, and hard rock.
After several drummer changes, Dave Grohl finally joined the band in 1990, bringing a powerful and influential dynamic to Nirvana’s sound.
Their third album, “In Utero” (1993), features a more abrasive and introspective sound, marking an attempt by the band to move away from the commercial success of Nevermind.
