My Chemical Romance is an American alternative rock and emo band formed in 2001 in Newark, New Jersey. The band is primarily associated with the genres of emo, punk rock, post-hardcore, and alternative rock. It was founded by Gerard Way (vocals) and Matt Pelissier (drums), soon joined by Ray Toro (guitar), Mikey Way (bass), and later Frank Iero (rhythm guitar).
