My Chemical Romance is an American alternative rock and emo band formed in 2001 in Newark, New Jersey. The band is primarily associated with the genres of emo, punk rock, post-hardcore, and alternative rock. It was founded by Gerard Way (vocals) and Matt Pelissier (drums), soon joined by Ray Toro (guitar), Mikey Way (bass), and later Frank Iero (rhythm guitar).
MCR is known for its dark aesthetic, theatrical style, and introspective lyrics dealing with themes such as death, suffering, hope, and resilience. They played a major role in popularizing the emo movement in the 2000s.
