Alice in Chains

Alice in Chains is an American rock band founded in 1987 in Seattle, Washington. Often associated with the grunge movement, the band stands out with a darker and more metallic sound, combining influences from heavy metal, hard rock, and alternative rock.

The band was formed by Jerry Cantrell (guitar, vocals) and Layne Staley (lead vocals), later joined by Mike Starr (bass) and Sean Kinney (drums). They signed with Columbia Records in 1989 and released their debut album, “Facelift” (1990), which included the hit “Man in the Box”, marking their breakthrough into the music scene.
